It has been a record breaking season for our girls soccer program. On Saturday, September 24 the Lady Eagles defeated South Bend Riley 7-0 to earn their 10th win and break the school record for most wins in a season. Mary Reddy led the way with 4 goals and 2 assists while Kaitlyn Shoemaker added 2 goals and Abigail Lollis chipped in for 1 more. The Eagles are now 10-5-0 on the season.
In talking with Coach Burt, she comments, “I had high hopes for this season, but had not thought about beating any records. When we started last season with only 7 eligible girls we knew we would have to work hard and get our numbers up. Coming into this season with 17 girls, I realized that this could be a big turning point for ECA girls’ soccer. Our whole team has worked hard this year to get to where we are. The captains have been great in motivating the team. Mary Reddy has been leading the offense while Kaitlyn Shoemaker serves as our team encourager. Precious Swen caps us off by directing the defense and finally Shealey Skaggs as a freshman is a quiet example of hard work. I am excited about our Sectional draw. We will play Central Noble which will be a good competitor but I think the girls will use the momentum they have gained to come out with a win in the first round. It would be incredible to end this year on yet another high note as the first ECA girls’ soccer team to win a sectional title!”
The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Thursday where they will play Lakeland HS for Senior Night. Come out at 7 to support the girls!
