The Elkhart Christian Varsity boys beat Prairie Heights in their home opener, Tuesday night when they took on Prairie Heights. The boys came away with a 60-49 victory with the help of Drew Overmyer, who scored 34 points. The Eagles grabbed the lead against Prairie Heights on a free throw from Travis Atkinson in the second period and never looked back. The Eagle’s defensive effort was key in their victory, holding Prairie Heights to just 34% from the field and 15% from beyond the arc. This defensive effort was headlined by Steve Weaver, who hounded Prairie Heights’ standout scorer Jacob Heller and held him to only 15 points on the night.
Contributions for ECA included Steve Weaver (9 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists), Atkinson (8 points, 3 assists, 1 steal), Austin Springer (4 points, 1 block), Jude Allen (3 points, 6 rebounds,5 assists, and 2 blocks) and Josh Kelly(2 points, 5 rebounds). ECA finished the night with 22 rebounds (six offensive/16 defensive), four blocks and three steals.
The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season.
Earlier in the evening the JV boys team also won 44-39 in a thrilling Double Overtime finish. Chase Biddle scored 10 points, Jakob Maxwell scored 9 and Tyler Litwiller and Jordan Tolbert both added 8. Litwiller made the 3 point shot to win the game at the end of the 2nd overtime period!
The JV boys also improve to 2-1 on the season.
